Over the past thirty years, we have seen various incarnations of the Clown Prince of Crime.
Since 2008, we have had no less than four renditions from The Dark Knight, Gotham, Suicide Squad and Joker – not to mention several animated formats and Mark Hamill’s infamous take on the character which the famed actor has been reprising (on and off) since the early 90’s.
2019’s Joker stunned many and won critical acclaim from fans and critics alike.
The origin story of the well known villain, which was loosely based off The Killing Joke graphic novel, was set in the early 80’s and fans have since speculated as to whether Joaquin Phoenix would reprise his role in the upcoming reboot of the Caped Crusader: The Batman.
Well, if recent rumours are to be believed, then it looks as though Matt Reeves’ intended trilogy for the Dark Knight might actually feature yet another take on the villain. Now, DC fans – nay – comic-book fans in general know of the long history between Batman and the Joker, but are we getting fatigued with it all?
Matt Reeves’ vision for Batman promises to be a noir style, detective story. Sound great! But if they do reimagine the Joker, yet again. It will have to be something quite different to set this next incarnation apart from Joaquin Phoenix’s acclaimed portrayal.
Either way, it’ll very interesting to see how the directors vision incorporates the Joker into his noir style drama.
